Bachelor Family

BACHELOR Family of Warmington

The surname was, and is, variously spelt. However this was how the last bearers of the name in the village spelt their name.

* IN 1693, Francis BACHELOR, then of Avon Dassett, bought property in Warmington from Thomas Perkins. His son John’s marriage settlement in 1723 itemises the property as two messuages, Dove House Close and half a yardland. In 1732 John sold the farmland to his brother-in-law Nathaniel WALTON of Wormleighton. The family home in Dovehouse Close stood on the east side of what is now called School Lane.

NOTE :- Much of the above information is extracted from property deeds now in Warwick County Record Office, as well as from the Warmington parish register and gravestones, (memorial inscriptions, MIs). Because of deficiencies in the register in the 1730s and 1740s tracing the BACHELOR line with certainty from the individuals listed above cannot be achieved.

That there was a quite close relationship seems likely – the trade of shoemaker persists, as well as recurring Christian names.
